Snapchat releases new glasses called Spectacles
Earlier this year, Snap, Inc. announced
that they were going to release a pair of sunglasses that will be used to
record videos directly, and honestly I didn’t know how to feel about that,
especially with the huge failure of the Google glasses.
But yesterday, the Spectacles,
which is what they were named, were put on sale in a yellow vending machine
near the company’s headquarters in Venice, California.
The Spectacles
came in a small plastic tube that contained the case, the glasses, a USB
charging cable and a microfiber cloth in the shape of the snapchat ghost. The
glasses themselves came in three colors: black, teal, and coral. The design was
surprisingly good, and the glasses didn’t feel bulky or uncomfortable and were
very light weight, which all fits perfectly to the fun theme Snapchat are trying
to give them. The glasses have a Ray Ban look to them with a plastic frame,
with two circle positioned in each of its corners, one of them is the camera
and the other serves as a LED that lights up when the Spectacles are recording
or pairing.
The Spectacles are
very easy to use. To pair them with your phone all you need to do is look at
the Snapchat ghost icon in the app with the Spectacles, press the button on the
glasses and there you go. Taking snaps with them is equally simple, all you
have to do is press the same button which will launch a 10 second video recording
that can be extended by another press. The video recorded will automatically be
uploaded to your memories.
The Spectacles
will cost you $129.95 at this moment, and while the idea of the glasses is not
a breakthrough, they are definitely fun to use and experiment with.
