2016 will probably be the world warmest year
Just as we thought 2015 was hot, scientists
claim that 2016 is very likely to be warmer.
Monday morning, according to BBC, reports from the World
Meteorological Organization on the global climate for 2016 showed that this
year’s global temperatures for January to September were 0.88 degrees C above
the long-term average, and 0.11 degrees C above last year’s record, making it
very likely to be world’s warmest year.
This rise in
global temperature is causing other climate related issues. Arctic sea ice remained at very low levels, and there
was significant and very early melting of the Greenland ice sheet. The
ocean heat was also boosted, contributing to coral reef bleaching, and
above-average sea-level rise.
This year’s weather and climate related events had a negative impact on
agriculture and food security, and affected more than 60 million people around
the world, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.
